Al Gore was running against George Bush and when it all started ending people realized that Florida would be deciding state. Bush won Florida by a short margin so recounts had to be held to make sure that he was the new president. There was a lot of controversy involved because people believed that it was given to Bush who only won by 500 Floridian votes.
