x = 2y - 12....so sub 2y - 12 in for x in the other equation

3x + 4y = 14
3(2y - 12) + 4y = 14
6y - 36 + 4y = 14
6y + 4y = 14 + 36
10y = 50
y = 50/10
y = 5

x = 2y - 12
x = 2(5) - 12
x = 10 - 12
x = -2

solution is (-2,5) <==
