Once Cuba acknowledged the Platt Amendment and an
independent government was chosen the US troops left instantaneously. A friend
and supporter of the US named Estrada Palma became Cuba’s first president. Palma
served from 1902 – 1906 in a period discernable by continued progress in recuperating
from the war damage and an accomplished and honest administration.
