Nick and Cathy collected shells on the seashore. In the morning Nick found several shells, while Cathy found 7 shells. In the afternoon, Nick found 15 more shells. Now the ratio of Nick's shells to Cathy's shells in 3:1. How many shells did Nick find in the morning?

If Cathy found 7 shells and the ratio was 3:1 that afternoon, then in total, Nick found 21 shells because 7×3=21.


21-15=6

Therefore, Nick found 6 shells that morning.

[tex]y = \frac{3}{1} [/tex]
3×7÷1×7
21÷7
Ratio= 21 ÷ 7
