Actually the energy
of light is absorbed by the chlorophyll molecules. They then pass it to the
reaction centres wherein the photon energy is utilized to split the water
molecules. The H+ produced is used to generate a gradient where the enzymes employ
the electrical gradient from chemiosmosis and to convert ADP into ATP. Other molecules
such as NADPH are formed and are used to reduce CO2 to other organic molecules.
