The answer is x < 1 or x > 7

rewrite as x2 -8x +7 > 0

so, (x-7)(x-1)>0

clearly the product would be >0 either when both are +ve or when both are -ve

both positive⇒x>7
both negative⇒x<1
so, "x<1 and x>7" is the answer
