Autotrophs are the first level to all food chains as they do not consume other things they produce their own materials . Autotrophs also can help things survive through extreme conditions . 
they are primary producers they use a high amount of oxygen in their chemical reaction. they also have a smaller amount of numbers than heterotrophs.
