The correct answer is to shut off the engine if you fall off. If the engine wasn't shut off in such situations, serious issues could arise and that is why a safety lanyard is installed. If you fall off, the engine shuts down and it goes around your wrist. If you didn't have it, the PWC would keep on going for a while before stopping.
