It's a big question. It sort of depended on what portion of the Americas that they ended up in. Only about 4% of the African slaves ended up in what is the original 13 colonies of the United States. In the Caribbean particularly, the plantations were akin to death camps, and new slaves were constantly needed to constantly replenish the slaughter.
