You had to be straight because it went against the Bible to be gay. The Bible says that marriage should be between a man and a women. Hope this helps! Also I don’t believe that is true nowadays but back then people thought it was a sin!
They didnt alow gay marriges because they did not want to be shamed by God. Although, if you were royal, they didnt let you even choose who you wanted to marry, boy or girl. They arranged them.
