A student finds a shiny piece of metal that she thinks is aluminum. In the lab, she determines that the metal has a volume of 245 cm3 and a mass of 612 g. Calculate the density. Is the metal aluminum?

= 2.50 g/cm^3.

The literature  states a density of 2.70 for the density of aluminium. The only other  metal which is close to this value is strontium ( d = 2.64) which is a silvery colour so it might be that.  One way to find out which it i s to see if the metal reacts with water. Aluminium does  not while strontium does.
