2x - y = 7
x + y = 2

Answer:

rearrange x + y =2

y=2-x

sub y to 2x-y=7

2x-(2-x) = 7

solve for x

2x-2+x = 7

3x-2 = 7

3x = 7+2

3x = 9

x = 3

sub x = 3 to y = 2-x

y = 2-3

y = -1

check:

2(3) - (-1) =7

7=7

3+(-1) =2

2=2

therefore x = 3, y = -1
