There is often a higher level of achievement in single-gender schools. The teachers use teaching techniques which were proven to be effective for their students' gender.
Discipline problems occur less frequently. Students have more self esteem in a single gender environment, and there is no competition between boys and girls.
The disadvantages:
Students might develop prejudices against the opposite gender. It is harder for them to have understanding and compassion for the opposite gender later in life.
Dividing children into female and male schools might result in unequal educational opportunities, due to different teaching styles.
