What made Americans want to settle in Texas?

Well first of all, the Texas land was cheap. And most Americans wanted to take over Mexican territory. Settling in Texas brought them closer than ever.  Mexicans also offered free land to Americans that would homestead in the Texas land and combat Indian attacks.
