f(x) + n - shift a graph of f n units up

f(x) - n - shift a graph of f n units down

f(x + n) - shift a graph of f n units left

f(x - n) - shift a graph of f n units right.

We have

[tex]f(x)=\dfrac{1}{x},\ g(x)=\dfrac{1}{x}+4=f(x)+4[/tex]

Shift the graph of f(x) 4 units up.

Or we have

[tex]f(x)=\dfrac{1}{x},\ g(x)=\dfrac{1}{x+4}=f(x+4)[/tex]

Shift the graph of f(x) 4 units left.
