*To solve inequalities is similar to solving equations: isolate the desired variable to one side.

So firstly, distribute -8 to (p + 1):

[tex]5p-8p-8>16[/tex]

Next, combine like terms:

[tex]-3p-8>16[/tex]

Next, add 8 to both sides:

[tex]-3p>24[/tex]

Lastly, divide both sides by -3. Now since you are dividing by a negative, you will be flipping the inequality symbol as well. Your final answer will be [tex]p<-8[/tex]
