The term for this neighborhoods is 'barrio' or 'el barrio'.
The barrio or el barrio is a term derived from the Spanish language, it is widely used throughout Central and South America in the Spanish speaking countries and were there's Spanish speaking populations in a non-Spanish speaking country.
