The second messenger mechanism of hormone action operates by BINDING TO SPECIFIC RECEPTORS AND EMPLOYING THE SERVICES OF G PROTEINS AND cAMP.
Second messengers are typically released in the human system in response to exposure to extracellular signalling molecules and they function by triggering specific physiological changes.  Examples of second messengers are cyclic cAMP, calcium, cyclic GMP, inositol triphosphate, etc.
